The Days When No Birds Sing by Tracey Cracknell

The day I crossed the line between ok and not so fine
Started out much the same as any other.
I got up out of bed, put my glasses on my head,
Put my clothes on and I made a cup of tea,
Then later on that morning I discovered without warning
That my deepest, deepest love was not an angel from above
But a demon sent from Hell
To plunge me way way down a well of dark despair,
So won't you take a tip from me
And process everything you see
Because the signs were there before
That I had chosen to ignore
As to accept them was to leave
And I just couldn't face to grieve
For the loss of someone I still held so dear.
It taught me quite a lesson I was not prepared to learn
But they say what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
Treat them mean treat them keen,
Now what's that supposed to mean -
Well I'm not taking all that bollocks any longer.
Now I'm getting back my smile
Though it's taken quite a while
Seven years to be precise
And it's not been very nice,
So if you're down like I was
Please have faith, you'll be okay,
It might not take so long
But you will have to be strong,
Get a hobby, bake a cake, put up a shelf.
But the most important thing on the days when no birds sing
Is to remember to be patient with yourself.
